Dambulla

In the Central Province of Sri Lanka, Dambulla is a big town located at a major road junction but is best known for its cave temple complex. The Dambulla cave temples and the Golden Temple are the main tourist attractions in Dambulla, and are sacred Buddhist cultural sites with many cultural values. The site is considered as one of the largest, well maintained cave temple complex in Sri Lanka.

The recently discovered Ibbankatuwa prehistoric burial site was near here and it is believed that this site provides evidence of an indigenous civilization that was here long before the Indo-Aryan migration.

Other interesting sites near Dambulla are the Rose Quartz mountain range, the ironwood forest and the Na Uyana Aranya, which is a Buddhist forest monastery.
