Ella is a lovely small town situated at the Southern edge of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The town is surrounded by beautiful hills which are dotted with tea estates and small vegetable plots. The temperature is mild and it can get cold at night. Ella is good place to relax, but also offers many opportunities to get out and explore the surrounding area on foot.
There is some enjoyable trekking around Ella to places such as Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock, and some of the best waterfalls on the island can be found nearby.
Rawana Falls is a short distance downhill from the main strip of shops and guesthouses. Ella is also home to an adventure park, which offers activities such as cycling and mountain biking, bird watching, caving and rock climbing.
Badulla is small town area situated near Ella. The town is surrounded by picturesque hills and tea plantations. The main sights in and around Badulla are Muthiyangana Temple, Dhowa Temple and Bogoda Temple, as well as the popular Duhinda waterfall and Veall’s Park, which is a small botanical garden.
